Responsible for participating in new product development projects and developing components, systems, and medical devices for commercialization. This includes designing, prototyping, testing, and completing functional and empirical analysis. This position focuses on mechanical and system elements of design.
Develop conceptual designs of structures, mechanical mechanisms, dressings, packaging and other required components and devices necessary commercializing a medical device.. Develop 3D models of the product and performance of detail product analysis (structural analysis, tolerance stack analysis). Generate and execute test procedures to verify product performance versus requirements Assist in prototyping the design including sourcing of materials for the initial model, the product test models and the market test models Assist drafting in the documentation of the product by providing the necessary input for completion of specification sheets, part drawings and assembly drawing. Assist in product manual development with marketing and legal inputs Provide technical assistance to Engineering, Project Management, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance and Operations groups throughout the early production builds and launch. Supports the effort through documentation and training as required Develop guidelines for the development of manufacturing inspection/test procedures and equipment Support product manufacturing by supplying alternate sourcing advice including vendor or component analysis, alternate manufacturing process deviations, and cost improvement design changes. Participate in any and all reasonable work activities as may be deemed suitable and assigned by management. Follow all FDA and ISO requirements for design control and assist in developing design control deliverables for projects. Conform to, support and enforce all Company policies and procedures.
Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering, General Engineering, Engineering Sciences, or other Engineering. Minimum 2-year Mechanical Design experience: Mechanics, Structures, Fluid Dynamics, Adhesives, Medical Device or Controls Materials knowledge (minimum of a few, not all required): plastics (including tooling), steels, aluminum, phenolic, acrylic/silicone adhesives AutoCAD and SolidWorks and/or ProEngineer experience Mechanical Analysis Software Experience (i.e., COSMOS, ProANSYS, ProMechanica, etc.) Ability to deal effectively with all employees and external business contacts while conveying a positive, service oriented attitude. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
