Job Description

This position supports both domestic and global manufacturing/distribution sites in Asia, EU and the US.

Duties and Responsibilities:[WA]

General w Innovation w  Manufacturing w Materials w  Quality w  R&D

•Identifies and champions packaging projects that lead to improved customer satisfaction, quality, operational efficiencies, reduced cycle time and reduced cost
•Recognized SME who provides technical expertise (coaching) and serves as lead technical resource that can be deployed to address packaging, quality and supply chain/corporate procurement issues as needed across the globe
•Acts as liaison between internal and external engineering and development teams and testing services
•Designs, develops and commercializes innovative and robust packaging designs for new and existing products
•Generates packaging design specifications including:◦Creation/modification of Engineering Drawings for primary, secondary and tertiary packaging components ensuring that CTQ dimensions are clearly defined
◦Provides detailed analysis on packaging systems to identify the master challenge product for testing purposes
◦Facilitates first article inspections for packaging design changes
◦Provides palletization configuration expertise as needed

•Approves:◦All packaging & labeling materials, changes and prototypes (including tooling) associated with primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging
◦Packaging validation protocols, reports and test methods as required
◦Master Challenge products and packaging stability strategies

•Strong ability to create and/or assist project managers in the creation of detailed project plans with specific actions for on time completion
•Provides proprietary patentable packaging designs and processes
•Key author/contributor for creation/modification of company packaging procedures (ex. Master Package Challenge, Machine Trials, Transit Trial Analysis)
•Work with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality and Validation to qualify internal and external packaging equipment, processes and materials
•Offers technical expertise and guidance to project team members/suppliers including CTQ and GD&T practices
•Strong communications skills (written and oral). Including Technical communications with major equipment manufacturers, material vendors and contractors required.
•Strong ability to develop successful business plans and reports
• Strong ability to develop and maintain strong supplier relations
•Strong ability to navigate key quality processes such as Change Control and CAPA
•Strong analytical problem solving/decision making skills are required
•Strong ability to perform root cause analysis and other key problem solving skill sets
•Works well with people in cross-functional, internal and external team environments and across all management levels
•This position is accountable for conformance, support and enforcement of all Company policies and procedures

Requirements - Engineering

•5-8 years’ experience in the medical device industry with focus on project management, packaging engineering, packaging design and manufacturing.
•Proven track record with a variety of packaging materials, equipment (including automation)[WA2] , sterilization and stability
•Experience with system kits as well as individual packaging components
•Experience with FDA, ISO, AAMI & ASTM Standards
•Expertise in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) systems
•Experience with Solid Works or similar 3D modelingRequirements - Business
•Proven project management and data analysis experience required
•Proven track record of success working in a global team environment both as lead as contributing member
•Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion in business relationships and exercise sound business judgment
•Strong knowledge/application of MS Office applications including Excel, Project, Word, PowerPoint & Access
•Develops and apply project management tools, critical process measures and metrics
•Travel (US & OUS) (33%)

Preferred Qualifications:
•PMP Certification
•Preferred candidate would have experience relating to Process Excellence, Lean Manufacturing and/or Value Engineering
•Preferred candidate would be familiar with tooling design and fabrication practices with general knowledge of plastics processing and part design
•Preferred candidate to understand lifecycle management of capital assets
•Product Data Management (PDM)/Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)

•Bachelor’s Degree Packaging Engineering or Engineering Discipline with packaging experience required
•Work Experience Table:
•5-8 Years with BS
•3-6 Years with MS
•0-3 Years with PhD or JD
